How to Use the Micro Kate

The Micro Kate can be used to 2-ply or 3-ply your yarns. You have the choice to either ply right from your 2 inch ringspindles or you can use the “plying rods” for transferring spun cops from your ringspindles.

Using the Plying Rods

Step 1:

Position a plying rod as shown.

Step 2:

Place the end of your spindle directly onto the pointed tip of the plying rod and….

…slide the cop (spun yarn) down onto the rod.

Step 3:

Insert the non-pointed end of the plying rod into the “Spring Receptacle” (the walnut cylinder that projects to the outside of the Kate).

Then…

…slide the pointed end into the “Hook
Receptacle” (the walnut cylinder that
projects on the inside of the kate).

Final step of ply rod instruction

With all the plying rods in place you are now ready to ply. Draw the yarns from each plying rod through the “plying eye”. Attach the yarns to a spindle and ply them together.

Note that the yarn from the rear plying rod is being drawn over the center dowel.

Plying Directly from your 2″ Micro Golding RingSpindles

Plying directly from your 2 inch micro Golding Ringspindles

First insert the flat end of your 2″ RingSpindle shaft into the “Spring Receptacle”, then slide the hook into the “Hook Receptacle” (same procedure as inserting plying rods, as shown above).

Draw the yarns from each spindle through the  “plying eye”. Attach the yarns to a spindle and ply them together.
